My dad read about this place in the Washington Post and wanted to go because he heard it was a charming dive. It has a black and white tile floor. It was dark inside. They had on old phone booth that is no longer in use. Some of the seats had rips in them. The food came in a basket with wax paper. I liked the digital juke box. They also had the original Pacman game.
The chicken tenders were good but a little plain. They weren't really seasoned. I really liked the fries. I had a lot of them. They were perfect. Just right.
We paid at the front. They don't bring you a check. Instead it is an honor system. You tell the cashier what you had. They don't keep track. They trust the customer. That is why this diner is loved by the locals. We were honest. It was a good diner!
One little girl's quest to find and rate the best chicken tenders and macaroni and cheese ordered from kid menus wherever she travels.

Mount Vernon Inn, Mount Vernon, VA
We visited George Washington's house. And while there we tried to eat at the food court but it was too busy. And then we decided that we would try the restaurant at the visitors center. It is designed to look like a building built in George Washington's time.
I ordered some apple cider which I normally don't do. I ordered chicken tender with potato chips. The chips were home made. The tenders were store bought. The tenders I don't think were really good. I do think that the chips were really good. I really liked the apple cider. I liked the corn bread they served.
Then after that we went to see the house. Then we went out back and we went down the hill to where a stone fence started at a steep point. We were looking at the Potomac River down the hill.

Jean Bonnett Tavern, Bedford, PA
We drove to Pennsylvania and I stopped at a restaurant that my parents had read about in a magazine. We learned about the history of the Tavern. The Tavern is more than 250 years old and has been a restaurant the entire time. It is also an inn. We found out that is is one of the top 10 most haunted places in Pennsylvania. They showed us a binder full of pictures of supposed ghosts and orbs that were in the tavern.
The chicken tenders were good. I liked how they were juicy. They were definitely home made. They also made rootbeer there, but the thing about it was they served if cold but they didn't put any ice in it. The waitress said it would decrease the taste. I also like their fries. They were good. I think they were also home made. I tasted the mozzarella sticks, which I thought were very cheesy. I got applesausce which had some cinnamon sprinkled in with it.
They said that if we turned in our receipt at their gift shop they would give us some free goat food to feed the goats they have outside. At first I was kind of nervous to feed the goats. But then I tried it and it feels good. They just lick your hand. There were three goats and the goats were fighting over the food. One goat kept the other two from getting. He would forcefully push them away if I tried to feed the other goats. This one poor goat didn't get a lot goat fead because wherever I went the other two goats would try to steal the food. Eventually I tried to trick them into letting me feed this one brown goat.
After lunch we drove and saw some old covered bridges. They were over 100 years old. There is only room for one car at a time.
